代替理論はない by Jonathan Wells

Brian Trent によれば、保守系シンクタンクCATO Instituteで去る2006年10月12日に開かれた、懐疑論者の重鎮Dr.Michael Shermerの本をフィーチャーしたイベント「Why Darwin Matters: The Case against Intelligent Design」において、インテリジェントデザイン支持者で統一教会信者であるDr. Jonathan Wellsがゲストとして、笑える一発を放ったらしい：

In a debate at the Cato Institute between evolutionist Michael Shermer and so-called Intelligent Design proponent Jonathan Wells, the latter was asked point-blank what his alternative to the evidence for natural selection was.
“I don’t think I’m obligated to propose an alternate theory,” Wells publicly stated. “I don’t pretend to have an alternate theory that explains the history of life.”

CATO Instituteでの進化論者Michael Shermerとのディベートで、いわゆるインテリジェントデザイン支持者Jonathan Wellsは、自然選択に代わる彼の理論の証拠は何かと問われて「私は代替理論を提唱する義務があるとは思っていない。私は生命の歴史を説明する代替理論があるふりをしない」と公的に明言した。

インテリジェントデザインの本山たるDiscovery Instituteは確かに、インテリジェントデザインを公立学校で教えるべきではなく、進化論を批判的に分析することを教えろと言っている。

また、Discovery Instituteのシニアフェローであり、Gilder Publishing LLC代表であるGorge Gilderは：

"I'm not pushing to have [ID] taught as an 'alternative' to Darwin, and neither are they," he says in response to one question about Discovery's agenda. "What's being pushed is to have Darwinism critiqued, to teach there's a controversy. Intelligent design itself does not have any content."

Discovery Instituteの方針について問われたとき、彼(George Gilder)は「私はダーウィンの代替としてインテリジェントデザインを教えることを推進していない。そして彼らもだ。推進しているのはダーウィニズムを批判することであり、論争があることを教えることだ。インテリジェントデザイン自体に中味はない」と答えた。

The superintendent of the Dover Area School District, who led the district when it made national headlines for the teaching of intelligent design two years ago, will soon lead the Eastern Lebanon County School District.

2年前にインテリジェントデザイン教育について全米で一面をかざることになったときのDover学区教育長が、Eastern Lebanon郡学区教育長に就任する。

Richard D. Nilsen, superintendent at Dover since 2002, will succeed Ronald Hetrick, who is retiring at the end of the school year after seven years as Elco superintendent and 35 in all in the district. Nilsen takes over July 1.

He went along with his bosses' desires despite his own feelings, and had to contend with a teaching staff that also disagreed with the board's decision, Miller said.
