テキサス州教育委員会はピンポイントな創造論用語を承認

三日前の続きで、Austin-American States Manの報道によれば、テキサス州教育委員会の理科教育標準の改訂で、創造論用語「strengths and weaknesses」を引っ込めて、新たな創造論用語を加えた：

The State Board of Education this afternoon rejected efforts to continue to require Texas children to learn the “strengths and weaknesses” of scientific theories including evolution. But a narrower challenge to evolutionary theory was approved.

テキサス州教育委員会は本日(2009/01/22)午後、テキサス州の子供たちに「進化論を含む科学理論の強いところと弱いところを学ぶことを義務付ける」の継続を否決した。しかし、進化論への、より狭めた挑戦は承認された。

Two motions to leave the “strengths and weaknesses” language, or similar phrasing, in place failed. It was a defeat for a group of conservative board members who have been pushing to keep the phrase, which has been part of the Texas science curriculum for all public school students since 1988.

「強いところと弱いところ」かそれに類した記述を残そうとする動きは失敗した。1988年以来、公立学校の生徒たちの理科カリキュラムの一部となってきた、この「強いところと弱いところ」を維持しようとした保守的な教育委員たちは敗北した。

However, the board later approved a motion by board Chairman Don McLeroy, R, College Station, to require students to evaluate the “sufficiency or insufficiency” of scientific theories about common ancestry of different species.

しかし、その後でCollege Station選出の共和党Don McLeroy委員長による「異なる種の共通祖先についての科学理論の十分なところと不十分なところを生徒たちに評価することを義務付ける」動議は承認された。

Today’s votes were by a committee of the board. Members will vote again on Friday on the state science standards. The board will hold a final vote at its March meeting.

本日(2009/01/22)の採決は州教育委員会によるものである。委員たちは金曜日(2009/01/23)に州理科教育標準について採決を再度行う。州教育委員会は最終採決を3月の会議で行う予定である。
