で、そういえば、IDEA Centerそのものについて書いたことがなかったようなので、とりあえずwikipediaの和訳を加えた。

Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness Center

The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness Center(インテリジェントデザインと教育意識センター)は、もともとUniversity of California, San Diego (UCSD)でインテリジェントデザインを宣伝するために学生クラブとして組織されたキリスト教[1]非営利法人である。約25のアクティブな支部が、米国・ケニア・カナダ・ウクライナ・フィリピンに存在する。35のアクティブな支部が組織され、いくつかは現在は休止している。存在していると主張される米国の32支部のうち6支部は高校にある[2]。2008年12月に生物学者Allen MacNeillは、全米センターおよび各支部のウェブページの分析に基づいて、この組織が瀕死の状態[3]であると記述した。

History

IDEAは、インテリジェントデザイン運動の父たるPhillip E. Johnson によるUCSDでの講演の後に、Steve RennerとEddie ColanterとCasey Luskinによって1999年に組織された[4]。その到達点は次のように書かれている：

"the leadership of IDEA desires to educate people about "Intelligent Design Theory."[4]

IDEA Center

IDEA CenterはUCSD IDEAクラブが成長したもので、UCSD IDEAクラブのメンバーであり、創立者であるSteve RennerとEddie ColanterとCasey Luskinによって、IDEAクラブを高校を含む他のキャンパスへの拡大する努力[4]のひとつとして、2001年夏に組織された。

その到達点は次のように書かれている：

our primary focus of outreach is to help students found chapters of "IDEA Clubs" at high schools and universities where they can promote intelligent design theory to their fellow students.
我々の第一の目標は、学生・生徒たちがインテリジェントデザイン理論を同級生たちに広めることができる高校および大学のIDEAクラブ支部を見つけるのを支援することである。

IDEA Centerは役員会とアドバイザリー委員会によって運営されている。アドバイザリー委員会はインテリジェントデザイン運動の指導者たちWilliam A. DembskiとMichael BeheとPhillip E. JohnsonとJay RichardsとMark Hartwigによって構成され、役員会にガイダンスとサポートを提供する。IDEA Center役員会は3人の共同創立者うち2人の家族から役員を出すという普通ではない形で構成されている。Eddie ColanterとBrit ColanterおよびSteve RennerとLynette Rennerである。さらに、Ryan HuxleyとStephen Huxleyも役員である。アドバイザリー委員会のメンバーの多くはインテリジェントデザイン運動の推進力となっているDiscovery Instituteのフェローもしくは何らかの形で関係している人々である。IDEA Center創設以来、Discovery InstituteがIDEA Centerの最大の支援者となっている。IDEA Centerの共同設立者Casey Luskinはロースクール卒業後に、Discovery Instituteのスタッフになり、Discovery InstituteのブログEvolutionNews.org[5]で執筆している。

Activities

2004年には、Selman v. Cobb County School District裁判における、進化論を軽んじる注意書きの使用に対する科学界および教育界の拒絶に対抗して、IDEA Centerはプリントアウトに適した複数のファイルフォーマットで"Darwinist Disclaimer"を自サイトに掲載した[6]。

IDEA Centerは創立以来の大半の期間において、IDEAクラブの新規設立者および既存クラブの運営者である、いわゆる"club leaders"(クラブリーダー)をキリスト教徒に限定してきた。その理由は「the IDEA Center Leadership believes, for religious reasons unrelated to intelligent design theory, that the identity of the designer is the God of the Bible （IDEA Center指導部はインテリジェントデザイン理論とは無関係な宗教的理由により、デザイナーは聖書の神だと信じている）」からである。2006年1月にこの条件はドロップして、代りに「we consider it reasonable to conclude that the designer may be identified as the God of the Bible（デザイナーは聖書の神であると結論することは合理的だと考える）[6]」というIDEA Centerのミッションステートメントに合意することがクラブリーダーの要件となった。2007年6月にミッションステートメントは削除され、代りに「The IDEA Center Mission Statement is Currently Under Construction pending Board Approval after some recent changes to IDEA Center policies. The mission statement will be re-posted when finalized（IDEA Centerのポリシーに対する直近の変更後の役員会の承認待ちのため、IDEA Centerミッションステートメントは作成中）[7]」というメッセージになった。2008年3月に、ミッションステートメントには「we consider it reasonable to conclude that the designer may be identified as the God of the Bible（ザイナーは聖書の神であると結論することは合理的だと考える）[9]」と「IDEA Center Leadership believes that the identity of the designer is the God of the Bible（IDEA Center指導部はデザイナーは聖書の神だと信じている）[10]」が含められた。

2008年5月時点では、プレス/メディアコンタクトに、唯一のコンタクト先としてSan Diego State Universityの電子メールアドレスが書かれている。この電子メールアドレスは公立学校であるSDSUの従業員のものであり。SDSUにはIDEA Centerの支部は存在しない[10]。
