「仮説を作る」とは「サークルを作る」こと

竹内薫氏がインテリジェントデザインについて、次のようなことを書いている：

これは、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校で199ba9年に作られた仮説です。宇宙のどこかに知的設計者がいて、その知的設計者がたとえばDNAを設計して、生物を創りだしたという説なんですね。

1999年に何があったかな？　そもそも現在のインテリジェントデザイン運動の始まりは、1987年に創造科学を公立学校の理科の授業で教えることが違憲であるというEdwards v. Aguillard裁判の判決。あわてた創造論者たちが高校用副読本Of Pandas and Peopleの全置換を行って、中間化石 cdesign proponentsistsを残し、Common Descentな創造科学とインテリジェントデザインの証拠を残した。その"Of Pandas and People"の出版が1989年。

カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校に誰かポストを持ってたかな？

• インテリジェントデザインの父たるPhillip Johnsonは1967〜2000年の間はUniversity of California, Berkeleyの法学者。Darwin on Trialを1991年出版。
  
• 細菌の鞭毛などのネタを繰りだすMichael Beheは1985年以降Lehigh Universityにいて、現在は教授。Darwin's Black Boxを1996年出版。
  
• 主要な概念をつくったWilliam Dembskiは、Baylor University(1999〜2005)やSouthern Baptist Theological Seminaryでポストを得ている。The Design Inferenceを1998年出版。
  
• Discovery Instituteのインテリジェントデザイン部門を率いるStephen C Meyerは1981年にWhitworth College卒業後、企業や大学を渡り歩いているが、University of Californiaのどれにもポストを持ったことがない。
  
• 統一教会信者Jonathan WellsはUniversity of California, Berkeleyでポストを得ている。最初の反進化論本Icon of Evolution"は2002年出版。

おっと、そういえば、1999年当時University of California, San Diegoに在学中だったインテリジェントデザイン支持者がいた。現在Discovery InstituetのスタッフであるCasey Luskinだ。

そして、1999年5月に、当時University of California, Berkeleyの現役教授だったPhillip Johnsonの講演をきっかけに、University of California, San DiegoにIDEA Clubを作っている。

The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Club birthed in May of 1999 after UC Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson came and lectured at UCSD. Known for his books critiquing Darwinian evolution, naturalistic thought, and his leadership in the "Intelligent Design movement," Johnson was brought to UCSD by UCSD Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Campus Crusade for Christ to speak on issues related to creation and evolution.

IDEAクラブは、UC Berkeleyの法学教授Phillip JohnsonがUCSDで講演をしたあと、1999年5月に生まれた。ダーウィン進化論と自然主義思考に対する批判、とインテリジェントデザイン運動のリーダーシップで有名なPhillip Johnsonは、創造論と進化論に関連する話題を講演するために、"UCSD Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Campus Crusade for Christ"の招きでUCSDにやってきた。

竹内薫氏の「仮説を作る」は「サークルを作る」という意味らしい。
