BELIEVING that God created the universe in six days is a form of superstitious paganism, the Vatican astronomer Guy Consolmagno claimed yesterday.

He described creationism, whose supporters want it taught in schools alongside evolution, as a "kind of paganism" because it harked back to the days of "nature gods" who were responsible for natural events.

The Apostle Paul would have had something to say about Consolmagno’s bizarre contention. In Acts 17, Paul was distressed by paganism: “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols” (Acts 17:16). He then used the doctrine of creation to counter the paganism, for in Acts 17: 23, 24 (in his talk at the Areopagus), he declared:と書いている。

うーん。これは反論としては冴えない。決め手が新約聖書使徒言行録の引用の"everything in it"では。「自然現象を起こす神」は自然神であって、超越的な神ではないので、異教の神だというのがGuy Consolmagnoの主張だった。それにはまったく対応していない。
このごときに4日間かかったのは、"God, who made the world and everything in it"を検索するために時間がかかったせいだろうか。
もちろん、Answers in Genesisおニュースリリースは、あくまでもGuy Consolmagnoへの反論ではなく、Answers in Genesisの顧客たる創造論支持者たちへを安心させるためのもの。論理的反論は無意味といえば無意味。その観点では有効な作文ではある。
