米国連邦議会John Shimkus下院議員など聖書を根拠に地球が温暖化しないと語る人々はそれなりにいる。

他にも多くが、創世記8章21-22節や9章12-16節を挙げている。

First of all, in Genesis 8:22, we're told of a promise by God never to use global floodwaters again as a means of destroying life on Earth. In that promise, the Bible explicitly states: "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

そもそも、創世記8章22節で、地球上のう生命を破壊する手段として全地球的洪水を使わないという神の約束を、我々は告げられている。その約束で聖書は直接的に「地の続くかぎり、種蒔きも刈り入れも／寒さも暑さも、夏も冬も／昼も夜も、やむことはない」と書いている。

In other words, no more cataclysmic floods – the result Al Gore promises in the near future as a consequence of global warming. Just as importantly, there is another promise there that cold and heat shall not cease.

聖書によれば、温暖化は人間の活動によるものではない

温暖化が起きないというものの、少なくとも19世紀後半以降、地球全体の気温は上昇している。これには、小氷期からの回復という自然の変動と、二酸化炭素排出などの人間の活動の影響が絡んでいると考えられている。

God is in absolute control of His creation. He is the Creator (Genesis 1 and 2). God destroyed His creation in the days of Noah with a worldwide flood (Genesis 7–9). 気象・気候は神によってコントロールされており、人間の活動によってコントロールできないという。

黙示録は地球温暖化を示唆していない

黙示録には次のような記述があり、地球温暖化をイメージさせるらしい。

ヨハネの黙示録 / 16章 8-9節

第四の天使が、その鉢の中身を太陽に注ぐと、太陽は人間を火で焼くことを許された。人間は、激しい熱で焼かれ、この災いを支配する権威を持つ神の名を冒涜した。そして、悔い改めて神の栄光をたたえることをしなかった。

これについても、「人間の活動による」地球温暖化ではないと、聖書の別の個所の記述から主張する人々がいる。たとえば...

There is coming a global warming for sure but is it now? It is interesting to note that the Bible does speak of a time when things are going to get very hot on this earth. And we have all been pre-warned of this time that is coming. This event will take place at the end of the millenial reign.

11: Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12: Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

ペトロの手紙二 / 3章 10-12節

主の日は盗人のようにやって来ます。その日、天は激しい音をたてながら消えうせ、自然界の諸要素は熱に熔け尽くし、地とそこで造り出されたものは暴かれてしまいます。このように、すべてのものは滅び去るのですから、あなたがたは聖なる信心深い生活を送らなければなりません。神の日の来るのを待ち望み、また、それが来るのを早めるようにすべきです。その日、天は焼け崩れ、自然界の諸要素は燃え尽き、熔け去ることでしょう。

In order to explain the above scriptures it is necessary to share that Peter saw the day of the Lord and the earth burning in one moment of time. However other scriptures explain that this day of fire will come at the end of the great white throne judgement which will be a thousand years after Jesus returns to gather the Church. But these events will happen as God has told us. The globe (the earth) will be warm and that is for sure. So what do you think?

この聖書の記述を説明するためには、神の日と地球が燃えるのが一瞬のできごとだというペトロの見方を知っておく必要がある。しかし、聖書の他の個所の記述では、炎の日は、イエスが教会を集めるために還ってくる日から千年後の、偉大な白き玉座からの裁きの終わりにやってくる。しかし、これらは神が我々に起きると語っていることだ。地球は温暖化するのは確かだが、どう考えるか？
