In response we have received only vague assurances that something will be done. Nothing has been publicly announced. Worryingly, UCL has a history of trying to sweep this matter under the carpet. It failed to properly investigate Deer’s initial allegations in 2004 and, worse, reassured the world, in statements published in the Lancet, that an investigation had been done and all but one of the allegations had been found to be unproved.
University College London(UCL)からの我々が受け取った回答は何かが実行されたという曖昧なものだった。何も公表されていない。UCLには問題を隠蔽してきた過去がある。2004年にはDeerによる最初の嫌疑を適切に調査しなかった。そして、Lancetにおいて、調査が実行され、ひとつを除いて全ての嫌疑は証明されなかったと世界に発表した。
これに対して、英国下院科学技術委員長は、当委員会は調査の場として適切ではないとの回答している。

Dr Fiona Godlee, Editor-in-Chief of the BMJ, has published a call for the Science and Technology Committee to undertake an inquiry into the conduct of individual academics and clinicians and into what she describes as ‘institutional misconduct’ by University College London in relation to the work of Dr Andrew Wakefield on the MMR vaccine and other issues.

In response, Andrew Miller MP, chair of the committee, today said:

Dr Godlee has written to me with details of her concerns, and it appears that there are issues that warrant further investigation. However, I have responded to Dr Godlee that the select committee is not the right forum for dealing with allegations of professional misconduct.

You also indicate concerns about the broader questions of whether or not UCL adequately investigated the roles of all those who put their names to Dr Wakefield’s papers and whether there was pressure to minimise any investigations in order to protect the institution. These relate to the integrity of the academic institution as a whole and are not simply an issue of whether or not the institution promotes ‘good science’. This is a matter rather for a body such as HEFCE, which has the task of ensuring academic standards in publicly-funded bodies.とりあえず、英国下院科学技術委員会はHEFCEに委ねるもよう。
Dr Godleeは、University College London(UCL)が、Dr Wakefieldの論文の共著者たちに役割の調査を適切に実行できるか、また大学を守るために問題の矮小化しようとする圧力の存在を問うている。これらは全体としての学術機関の整合性に関するものであり、単に機関が"良い科学"を推進しているかの問題ではない。このような問題は公的資金による研究教育機関の学術水準を保証することを任とするHigher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)のような機関が取りつかうべき問題である。

"We are currently in the final stages of a process to identify a suitable external Chair for the review. We anticipate that its scope and terms of reference, and the full membership of the investigating panel, will be confirmed and the review formally launched by the end of this year. The investigating panel will include other external as well as internal members.
我々は現在、レビューのための適切な委員長の選定過程の最終段階にある。調査の対象範囲や期間、調査委員会のメンバーの確定および調査の開始を年内に予定している。この調査委員会には大学外部委員および内部委員が参加する。
