Bootsがホメオパシーの治療効果についての広告を撤去(2011/11)

「ホメオパシーレメディは効くからではなく、売れるから売っている」でおなじみの英国薬局チェーンBootsが、英国医薬品庁の指示にしたがい、昨年(2011年)11月に店頭からホメオパシーレメディの効果についての広告を撤去した。

A member of the public complained to the MHRA about point-of-sale advertising for homeopathic medicines produced by Boots which appeared in their stores. The complainant was concerned that the advertisements included indications for use but the products were not licensed with indications.

The MHRA upheld the complaint. Boots withdrew the advertisements from their stores.

Bootsが製造し、店頭においているホメオパシー薬品についての店頭広告に関して、一般人からMHRA(英国医薬品庁)へ苦情があった。広告には治療効果についての記述があるが、製品は治療効果について承認されていないことについて、苦情は懸念していた。


英国医薬品庁はこの苦情を取り上げ、Bootsは店頭から広告を撤去した。

英国医薬品庁とBootsは2011年9月21日に合意をして、この時点で広告撤去を始めた。

Boots and the drugs watchdog confirmed that the advertisements had been removed from the multiples' stores in September, following the complaint in July.

The 27 homeopathic products affected were indicated for conditions including earaches, chesty coughs and indigestion.

Bootsと英国医薬品庁は、7月の苦情にしたがって、9月に複数の店舗から広告が撤去されたことを確認した。27のホメオパシー製品の、耳痛・空咳・消化不良などの症状について治療効果の記述が影響を受けた。

すでに2008年にはオンラインショップの記述から治療効果についての記述が削除され、以下のような形になっている。

Boots Arnica 30cはホメオパシー薬品であり、治療効果は承認されていません。

これらがどの程度、Bootsにおけるホメオパシー製品の売り上げに影響するのかは不明である。

なお、英国医薬品庁に苦情を申し立てた一般人は、Prof. Edzard Ernstではない。
