インテリジェントデザインは創造論の一形態だと言ってしまったSTS学者Steve Fuller

「インテリジェントデザインは創造論ではない」というのがインテリジェントデザイン運動の公式な立場である。インテリジェントデザインの本山たるDiscovery Instituteのインテリジェントデザイン部門長であるStephen Meyerもそう言っている。これは、公立学校の理科の授業に侵入するために、絶対に崩せない建前である。

しかし、それがわかっていない支援者もいる。たとえば、インテリジェントデザイン宣伝映画の作成者Ben Steinもそのひとりだ。もちろん、インテリジェントデザイン運動を応援するSTS学者Steve Fullerも....

Intelligent design theory differs most markedly from other versions of creationism by the emphasis it places on complexity. The two leading intelligent design theorists, Michael Behe (1996) and William Dembski (1998), define the presence of intelligent design with reference to, respectively, "irreducible complexity" and "complex specified information"

インテリジェントデザインは複雑さを強調している点で、創造論の他のバージョンと最も違っている。二人の指導的インテリジェントデザイン理論家Michael BeheとWilliam Dembkiはインテリジェントデザインの存在を、それぞれ還元不可能な複雑さと、複雑で指定された情報として定義している。

Kitzmiller v. Dover裁判でインテリジェントデザイン擁護側で証言したときも、同様の証言をして、判決の根拠となっている。

Moreover and as previously stated, there is hardly better evidence of ID’s relationship with creationism than an explicit statement by defense expert Fuller that ID is a form of creationism. (Fuller Dep. at 67, June 21, 2005) (indicated that ID is a modern view of creationism).

さらに、前述のように、インテリジェントデザインは創造論の一形態だという、弁護側専門家Fullerの声明以上に良い、インテリジェントデザインと創造論の関係の証拠はない。

何を巡って戦っているのか、STS学者Steve Fullerはわかっていないようだ。もっとも、STSは対象とする分野の専門知識は不要なので、わかってなくてもSTS的には問題ないかも知れないけどね。
