DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Democrat Chet Culver scored a solid win over Republican rival Jim Nussle and will become Iowa's next governor.

Culver will lead the state after two terms as secretary of state.
With 69 percent of the state's 1,875 precincts reporting, Culver had 55 percent, compared to Nussle's 44 percent. While the vote count wasn't complete, Culver's lead was far too large for Nussle to overcome.
