ウラニウムバーガー

LIFEは1954年7月19日号の"Uranium makes a wilder west"という記事で、Salt Lake Cityなどを中心とするウランブームを伝えている。その中に、Salt Lake Cityで売られていたウラニウムバーガーが載っていた。

記事のキャプションによれば、別にウランが入っているわけではない。

同様なウランブームはニュージーランド西海岸で1955-56年にあった。同じようなノリで、ウラン鉱脈発見を記念して、ウランアイスクリームが発売されている。

Uranium ice cream(1955)

Anyone who could capitalise on the discovery of radioactivity advertised their services, including a pilot offering airborne radioactive surveys. Even the local ice-cream factory got into the act, offering uranium ice cream in November 1955. There is no record of its colour or taste, and it does not appear to have been on sale outside the West Coast.

味や色合いについての資料は残っていないが、パッケージの"YES URANIUM, The new rich icecream discovery"が、その勢いを伝えている。
