"若い地球の創造説"とは聖書創世記をそのまま解釈し、それを科学的に示そうとするもの。かつて米国で教育の場へ創造説を持ち込もうとした、創造科学"Creation Science"の残党かどうかはよくわからない。彼らは、聖書創世記の記述を踏みにじっていくインテリジェント・デザインが好きではないようだ。
一方、自らを科学と称するインテリジェント・デザイン側は当然、"若い地球の創造説"とお友達だと合衆国憲法に阻まれて教育の場に侵入できないから、違いを強調せざるを得ない。
ということで、ちょっと様子をうかがってみよう....
"Young Earth Creationists"(若い地球の創造論者)はインテリジェント・デザインが好きではない？
オーストラリア人Dr. Carl WielandやKen Hamらが始めた、創世記を守護するWebサイト Answers in Genesis(略称AiG)というのがある。創世記と科学がバッティングする点についてのＱ＆Ａを満載している。一応、日本語サイトもあるのだが、メンテ壊滅状態でほとんど読めるページがない。始めたのはオーストラリア人だが、米国ケンタッキー州のシンシナチ国際空港近くに、創造説博物館(The Creation Museum)なんてものを作っていたりする。また、Creation Magazine(Creation Magazine表紙)を発行している。
ちなみに、同じオーストラリアに、AiGに対抗するサイトNo Answers in Genesis!(略称NAiG)というのがある（お猿さんロゴ)。
「創世記」ありきな人々の「インテリジェント・デザイン」に対する考えのサンプルとしてこのAiGを見てみることにする。まずは、2002年8月30日のDr. Carl Wieland記事「AiG’s views on the Intelligent Design Movement」から
The Intelligent Design Movement’s motivation appears to be the desire to challenge the blind acceptance of the materialistic, godless, naturalistic philosophy of Darwinian evolution. ....As a movement, they are unwilling to align themselves with Biblical creationism.
インテリジェント・デザイン運動の動機は、ダーウィン進化論の唯物論的、無神論的、自然主義的哲学が疑いなく受け入れられていることへの挑戦のようだ。...運動として、彼らは聖書創造説と手を組みたがらない。
Their failure to identify themselves with a story of the past (e.g. Genesis) is partly tactically-driven, but is also a necessity, because they do not agree within themselves on a story of the past. However, this failure only reinforces the perception by the establishment that they are really ‘creationists in disguise’. The attacks on the IDM have thus been virtually as ferocious as any on Genesis creationists. Thus, the belief that agreeing to ‘keep the Bible out of it’ would serve to keep anti-religious hostility out of the arena has not been confirmed in practice.
彼らが創世記のような過去の話と関わらないのは戦術上の都合でもあるが、彼らが過去の話に同意していないという理由から必然でもある。しかし、それでは科学界が"偽装した創造論者"という認識を強めるだけだ。インテリジェント・デザイン運動への攻撃は創世記創造論へのそれと同じくらい獰猛だ。"聖書を締め出す"ことで、反宗教敵対行動を土俵に上げないことができるという考えが実証されたことはない。
基本的にはインテリジェント・デザインを支持してはいるのだが、不満はあるようだ。というか、聖書と関係ないという偽装をしても無駄だから偽装するなと言っているようでもある。
続いて、2005年2月7日の「
インテリジェント・デザインの理論家が聖書について誤る(ID theorist blunders on Bible)」で、AiGの"若い地球創造論者"Dr. Jonathan Sarfatiは、インテリジェント・デザインの理論担当Dr.William Dembski(顔>)を攻撃している。
Dembski certainly has a commendable goal of ‘dislodging materialism’. He realises that evolution is founded not upon evidence but rather on the interpretation of this evidence within a materialistic framework. However, materialism in biology was preceded historically and logically by materialism in geology. But Dembski fails to see how his own old-earth belief is an inadvertent deduction from the materialism in geology (and astronomy).
確かにDembskiには唯物論を撃退するという立派な目標がある。彼は、進化論が証拠ではなく、唯物論の枠組みの中での証拠の解釈によって成り立っていることを示した。しかしながら、生物学における唯物論は歴史的には地質学における唯物論が先行している。しかし、Dembskiは、"古い地球"が、地質学（と天文学）の唯物論からの意図せざる推論結果だということを見落としている。
Even worse, much of Darwin’s opposition came from people who were essentially old-earth ID proponents, ..
さらに悪いことに、ダーウィンの反対論者は、本質的に"古い地球"のインテリジェント・デザインの主張者である..
原理主義とでもいうべき"Young Earth Creationist"から見ると、50億年の地球の歴史や、130億年程度の宇宙の歴史は認められるものではないというところか。一方、インテリジェント・デザインは、この時間の長さについては議論しないことにしている。
ついでに笑えるＱ＆Ａを２つ。
- 神とET(God and the extraterrestrials)
The Bible, the revealed written Word of God, teaches that life is only possible through a process of creation.(聖書に記された神の言葉、生命は創造によってのみ存在すると教えている。)
In Genesis 1:14 we read: ‘And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.’We see from this that stars are there for mankind on earth.(創世記1-4曰く「神は光を見て、良しとされた。神は光と闇を分け、光を昼と呼び、闇を夜と呼ばれた」これから、星は地球の人類のために存在してることがわかる) - 地球外知性をさがすべきか(Should we search for extraterrestrial intelligence)?
The idea that other civilizations exist in outer space is based on evolutionary assumptions. Since, it is reasoned, life evolved on earth, it must have evolved in other regions of the universe as well, because the universe is so large.5 Such reasoning is faulty, though, because evolution does not have any biblical or true scientific basis to begin with.(外宇宙に他の文明が存在するというのは進化論に基づく考え方だ。地球で生命が進化したなら、宇宙は広大なので、宇宙のどこかで生命が進化しているはずだと考えるからだ。進化は聖書にもそして真の科学的基盤もないのだから、そのような考えは間違いだ。)
インテリジェント・デザインを支持する"Evidence for God from Science"
わりと有名なインテリジェント・デザイン支持サイトであるGodAndScience.org =Evidence for God from Science[Young & Edis 2004によると]は、"若い地球"創造説(以下YEC)を聖書解釈が間違っていると攻撃。
- YECは創造の日は1日24時間だと言っているが、まっとうな解釈は1日=1000年以上だ
- YECは太陽は創造4日目に創られたと言っているが、まっとうな解釈は宇宙丸ごと創造前日だ
- YECは楽園追放まで死はなかったと言っていてるが、まっとうな解釈は"あった"
- YECはエントロピー第2法則は楽園追放以後に発動したと言っているが、まっとうな解釈は楽園津法前からあった（これについては前述のAnswersInGenesisも認めている)
なんか、仲悪そうである。
Is There Really Scientific Evidence for a Young Earth? では、"科学的"にYECを殴り倒す。出だしは
The One-Sided Equation: A large class of "evidences" presented by young-Earth advocates involve measuring rates of various Earth processes, then attempting to extrapolate them backwards for millions of years. Generally, the purpose is to show that the process in question would build up to absurdity if it were allowed to continue through "evolutionary timescales." The fallacy of most claims of this type is a failure to recognize the importance of equilibrium....
....the balancing process is not well understood or even unknown, which may seem to lend credence to young-Earth claims. However, in these cases we simply revert to the unexplained mystery. Unless we can prove that no balancing process exists (and in most cases that cannot be done), we should adopt the working hypothesis that there is a yet-to-be-discovered process that provides the equilibrium, rather than jumping to the assumption of a supernatural explanation.
一方的な方程式: "若い地球"支持者が、地球のさまざなプロセスの変化率を測って、数百万年過去を外挿する。これの目的は「進化論の時間スケール」を通して変化が続くなら、問題の過程が不条理なことになるのを示すこと。しかし、この手の主張の間違いは、"平衡状態"の重要性がわかっていないことによる。....
....平衡過程がよくわかっていないか、知られていないと、"若い地球"がもっともらしく見えるかもしれない。しかしながら、これはただ、説明できない謎があるという状況にもどっただけだ。平衡過程が存在しないと示せない限り（多くの場合はそれは不可能だが）、未発見の過程によって平衡しているという作業仮説を立てるべきで、超常現象の仮定に飛びつくべきでない
かなり仲悪そうである。というか、インテリジェント・デザイン支持者にそんなこと言われたくもないというかんじもする。
このあと次のようなものが、えんえんと続く。
- YECは、Kelvinが地球からの熱の放出が続けられるのは2000万年が限度と計算したと言う。これは、Kelvinは放射性物質を知られていない当時に、考えうる最大のエネルギー源である重力収縮を想定していたからだ。
- YECは、太陽が過去120年の観測で小さくなっており、20万年後には大きさゼロになると言う。これは太陽内部の核反応の変動によるものだ。
- YECはイオの火山は創造から時間がたっていなくて冷えていないからだと言っているが、イオの火山は木星の潮汐力によるものだ。ボイジャーが観測する前から計算で予想されていた。
なにやら、まっとうなことを言っているインテリジェント・デザイン支持者たちだが...
ほぼそっくりそのまま攻守立場が変わって、科学界と戦うことになっている。
一方で、インテリジェント・デザイン支持者に攻撃された"若い地球の創造説支持者"(YEC)は、UFOビリーバーたちを攻撃している。
できれば、インテリジェント・デザイン vs "若い地球の創造説支持者" vs UFOビリーバーで戦って疲れ果ててほしいものだが...
