ガイア理論の提唱者James Lovelock[1919〜]は原発積極支持者。一部の環境保護主義者にとってLovelockはアンヴィヴァレントな存在である。ガイア理論もそうだが、原発についても豪快である。

In order to explain the above scriptures it is necessary to share that Peter saw the day of the Lord and the earth burning in one moment of time. However other scriptures explain that this day of fire will come at the end of the great white throne judgement which will be a thousand years after Jesus returns to gather the Church. But these events will happen as God has told us. The globe (the earth) will be warm and that is for sure. So what do you think?

共和党支持と温暖化否定のリンクが過去10年強まってきている

米国では、保守思想的には人間の価値を貶めるものとして、福音主義キリスト教の立場では創世記に反するものとして、進化論と地球温暖化とヒトクローンが挙げられている。反進化論の歴史は100年になるが、温暖化否定論の歴史はわりと短い。Gallup pollの世論調査によれば、支持政党とのリンクが強くなったのは過去10年のことだという。

We examine political polarization over climate change within the American public by analyzing data from 10 nationally representative Gallup Polls between 2001 and 2010. We find that liberals and Democrats are more likely to report beliefs consistent with the scientific consensus and express personal concern about global warming than are conservatives and Republicans. Further, the effects of educational attainment and self-reported understanding on global warming beliefs and concern are positive for liberals and Democrats, but are weaker or negative for conservatives and Republicans. Last, significant ideological and partisan polarization has occurred on the issue of climate change over the past decade.

8. 「対策をとるためには、さらなる研究が必要だ」と主張する
   
9. 影響とともに生きていく方が費用がかからないと論じる

これは、温暖化否定論で行われていることと、まったく同じである。

温暖化否定論の主張はDr. S Fred Singerひとりで尽くされてしまっている。その主張を、理系スタッフのほとんど存在しない保守系シンクタンクが出版物などの形で広めていく。専任やフェローなどの形で理系のPhDを関与させているのは、Dr. Sallier Baliunasの所属するThe George C Marshall Instituteや、Dr. S Fred Singerが自ら主宰するSEPPくらいである。

そして、それらの宣伝を受けて、温室効果ガス排出規制に対抗する政治家(共和党Inhofe上院議員)がいる。

Jim Inhofe連邦上院議員の行動は、2002年のLuntzメモにしたがったもの。その助言は、かつてのオゾン層破壊否定のときに行われたものと同様なものだった。

地球温暖化否定とオゾン層破壊否定はまったく同じ形で進行しているように見える。しかし、その2つには巨大な違いがあった。それは福音主義キリスト教である。聖書創世記をかかげて、温暖化を否定する連邦下院議員や牧師たちもいる。

また、世論調査結果は、夏が涼しいとか、Climate Gateとかで変動するものの、長い目で見れば趨勢はほとんど変わっていない。福音主義キリスト教の影響が大きい人々は考え方を変えないようである。

これについては、今回の調査結果を見ると、全体では、ゆるがないように見えていたが、実際には、支持政党で分極化が進んでいた。

地球温暖化についての世論調査の回答には、そのときの気温と関係があるという研究が発表された。

“Global warming is so complex, it appears some people are ready to be persuaded by whether their own day is warmer or cooler than usual, rather than think about whether the entire world is becoming warmer or cooler,” said lead author Ye Li, a postdoctoral researcher at the Columbia Business School’s Center for Decision Sciences, which is aligned with CRED. “It is striking that society has spent so much money, time and effort educating people about this issue, yet people are still so easily influenced.” The study says that “these results join a growing body of work show that irrelevant environmental information, such as the current weather, can affect judgments. … By way of analogy, when asked about the state of the national economy, someone might look at the amount of money in his or her wallet, a factor with only trivial relevance.”

Beliefs may reflect irrelevant but salient information, such as the current day’s temperature. In three studies, we asked residents of the United States and Australia to report their opinions about global warming and whether the temperature on the day of the study was warmer or cooler than usual. Respondents who thought that day was warmer than usual believed more in and had greater concern about global warming than did respondents who thought that day was colder than usual. In an interview with MinnPost’s Don Shelby on Tuesday, Rep. Beard explained his recent push for new coal-burning power plants in Minnesota.

In the Minnesota House, Beard has taken aim at clean air standards − in particular those that curb carbon dioxide emissions by power plants. He introduced HF72, which would lift the ban on new coal plants, and he also introduced HF509 to repeal the 2007 plan − touted by Gov. Tim Pawlenty − to curb greenhouse gasses and build Minnesota’s renewable energy infrastructure.

“A lot of what Beard knows he learned in church,” wrote Shelby. “One Congressman, talking about global warming, recently said that God wouldn’t allow man to do anything to destroy the planet. Beard told me, ‘It is the height of hubris to think we could.’”
