創造論の論客Duane Gish (92)死去

1973〜1987年、テネシー州とアーカンソー州とルイジアナ州の公教育に創造論が侵入していた時代の創造論の論客Duane Gish (92)が死亡した。既に創造科学=若い地球の創造論の始祖たるHenry M. Morrisも7年前に亡くなっており、米国反進化論の一つの時代の終わりを感じさせる。
Duane Gish, Senior Vice-President Emeritus for the Institute of Creation Research, anti-evolutionist, died on March 5 at the age of 91.

Gish was one of the world most infamous Creationist writers and debaters. His ploy was to not use the evidence (which Creationism lacks) in an argument but to use rhetorical devices.

He was best known for his irritating method of debate where he would rapidly fire arguments and “facts” at his opponent and change the topic. Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education, named this the “Gish Gallop.” In this technique, he could talk and talk and not say anything of meaning but put on a good show making it difficult for the other to answer. He had debated some famous skeptics including Michael Shermer and Massimo Pigliucci. This annoying tactic has since been identified in other debaters who lack good evidence for their claims but wish to appeal to the crowd. You will hear it used as a common pejorative these days.

彼は、相手に対して、勢いよく論と事実"を提示し、次々に話題を変えて行くという、苛々させるディベート手法で最もよく知られていた。National Center for Science EducationのエグゼクティブディレクターであるEugenie Scottは、この手法に“Gish Gallop"という名前をつけた。この手法で、彼は話し続け、意味を語らず、相手が答えるのを困難にして、良い見せ物にした。この厄介な戦術は、自らの主張を支持する証拠なく聴衆にアピールしたいという論客から注目された。今日、一般的には軽蔑として、これを耳にすることがあるだろう。

Born in Kansas, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1953 and was the author of several books, including books that promoted Christian Creationism to children.

なお、Edwards v. Aguillard裁判(1987)によって、創造論は公教育から撃退され、出版業として存続している。これに代わって、インテリジェントデザイン運動が法学者Phillip Johnsonによって始められた。

ヴァージニア州で進化論の授業を受けなくて済む州決議案が立ち消え

米国の進化論教育を守るNCSEによれば、ヴァージニア州上院で、州憲法の文言を修正して、創造論を信じる子供が進化論教育を受けなくても良いようにしようとする試みがあった。
Would a proposed amendment to the Virginia state constitution have undermined the teaching of evolution in the state's public schools? Senate Joint Resolution 287 would have revised a portion of the state constitution that concerns freedom of religion. Among the revisions was the addition of a provision "that no student in public schools shall be compelled to perform or participate in academic assignments or educational presentations that violate his religious beliefs."

.... Americans United for Separation of Church and State worried on its blog (January 30, 2013) that SJR 287 was aimed at allowing creationist students "to drop out of biology class if an assignment or presentation deals with evolution,"

提案されている、ヴァージニア州憲法の修正案は、州の公立学校の進化論教育を蝕むものだろうか？ SJR287は信教の自由に関して、州憲法を修正する。その中に「いかなる公立学校の生徒も、自分の信条に反する研究課題や授業の実行や参加を強制されない」というのがある。

政教分離のための米国人連盟はブログでSJR287について「創造論者な生徒が、進化論えお含む課題や提示があれば、生物の授業をドロップアウトできるようにするものだ」と懸念を表明した。

で、提案者である、共和党District 20選出William M. Stanley Jr. 州上院議員と共和党District 40選出のCharles W. Carrico Sr.州上院議員のうち、Stanley州上院議員が自ら期限切れで、事実上、廃案にしてしまった。
After SJR 287 was introduced, it was referred to the Senate Committee on Privileges and Elections, which modified it slightly and reported it back to the Senate on January 29, 2013. On February 5, 2013, at Stanley's request, the Senate recommitted it back to the committee, where it is effectively dead because February 5 was the deadline for each house to complete work on its own legislation.

SJR 287 は提案後に、州上院選挙管理委員会に送られ、そこで微修正され、2013年1月29日に州上院に戻された。Stanley州上院議員の要請で2013年2月5日に委員会に再送付された。2月5日が州上下各院での州法案についての作業完了期限なので、事実上、その日で決議案は廃案になった。

米国では、保守は、イエスが自分たちの考えに近い倫理問題を優先し、富の不平等や非合法移民の扱いについて重視していないと考えている[私のイエス]。そして、米国の保守なWikiであるConservapediaは聖書のリベラルな記述の削除を進めている。英国でも同様なようである。

トルコで、進化論を支持する本の出版停止か？...という報道

The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey(トルコ科学技術研究評議会)が進化論を支持する本の出版と販売を停止したとの報道があった。
The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) has put a stop to the publication and sale of all books in its archives that support the theory of evolution, daily Radikal has reported.

The evolutionist books, previously available through TÜBİTAK's Popular Science Publications’ List, will no longer be provided by the council.

The books have long been listed as “out of stock” on TÜBİTAK's website, but their further publication is now slated to be stopped permanently.

Titles by Richard Dawkins, Alan Moorehead, Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Levontin and James Watson are all included in the list of books that will no longer be available to Turkish readers.

トルコ科学技術研究評議会が、アーカイブにある進化論を支持する本の出版と販売を停止したとdaily Radikalが報道した。

進化論者の本は、これまではトルコ科学技術研究評議会のポピュラーサイエンスのリストにあったが、もはやトルコ科学技術研究評議会は販売を行わない。

これらの本は長きにわたり、トルコ科学技術研究評議会のサイトで「品切れ」となっていたが、今後の出版は予定されていない。

Richard DawkinsやAlan MooreheadやStephen Jay GouldやRichard LevontinやJames Watsonの本はトルコでは手に入らない本のリストにある。

米国よりも進化論に敵対的な世論の国なので、あってもおかしくない話である。しかし、トルコ科学技術研究評議会はこれを否定した。
The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) has strongly denied reports that it has stopped printing books on evolution, saying the claims were “black propaganda” against their institution.

“If we aim to censor Evolution Theory we would discontinue publishing any books containing evolutionist approaches, but on the contrary we are publishing the books that are not being published by other publishing houses,” an official from TÜBİTAK told the Hürriyet Daily News yesterday in a phone interview.

トルコ科学技術研究評議会は進化論に関する本の出版・印刷を停止したとの報道を強く否定し、それは我々への「ブラックプロパガンダ」だと述べた。

「進化論を検閲するなら、進化論アプローチに関する本の出版を止めている。しかし、逆に我々は他の出版社が出していない本を出版している」とトルコ科学技術研究評議会の公式担当者がHürriyet Daily Newsの昨日のインタビューで述べた。
